New Health Series at Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center Puts Spotlight on Breast Health

WATERBURY, Conn. (August 11, 2014) ─ Naugatuck Valley Surgical 

Center (NVSC) is sponsoring a free program, “Think Pink: Breast Health for All Ages” presented by Dr. Beth Sieling on Tuesday, August 12 as part of the “Spotlight on Health” series at NVSC.

Think Pink

Dr. Sieling, who specializes in all aspects of breast health, will discuss the importance of early detection and knowing your risk of breast cancer. Family history plays an important role and more women and men are becoming aware of the genetic screening services that are available to help identify those who have an increased risk of breast, ovarian, prostate and colon cancer. Dr. Sieling also will discuss advanced treatment options that can lead to better outcomes. 

Dr. Sieling earned her medical degree from East Carolina University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in general surgery at Abington Memorial Hospital in suburban Philadelphia, as well as a breast surgery fellowship under the tutelage of nationally-renowned experts at The Comprehensive Breast Center in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Dr. Sieling is board-certified in general surgery. Her practice is The Breast & Oncology Center in Southbury, an affiliate of Saint Mary’s Hospital.

This program is free and open to the public. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program from 6 to 7 p.m. at NVSC, 160 Robbins St. in Waterbury. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please call 203-755-6663 or email

Additional events in the “Spotlight on Health” series will include “Put Your Best Face Forward” by Dr. Mark Ruchman on September 9 and “Don’t Bat an Eye Over Excessive Tears,” by Dr. Neil Schiff and Dr. Jonathan Silbert on October 14.

Established in 1986, Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center was one of the first free-standing surgical centers in the country. Now an outpatient department of Saint Mary’s Hospital, this fully-licensed and accredited ambulatory surgical center includes seven operating rooms, three treatment rooms, a 21-bed Post Anesthesia Care Unit and dedicated pediatric recovery room.
