Saint Mary’s Designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility

WATERBURY, Conn. (February 5, 2016) ─ Saint Mary’s Hospital has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals living with morbid, or extreme, obesity.

Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of healthcare services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their healthcare needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.

“We are proud to be recognized by Aetna for providing high quality care for patients in our Surgical Weight Loss program,” said Dr. Aziz Richi, Vice Chairman of Surgery, Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery, and Chief of Staff at Saint Mary’s Hospital. “Our goal is to bring patients back to a healthy life. We offer a multidisciplinary approach that addresses the medical, physical and psychological impacts of obesity. We are here to support our patients during and after surgery so they not achieve a healthier weight, but can eliminate obesity-related conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes. ”

Saint Mary’s Hospital is accredited by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). This designation places Saint Mary’s among an “elite group” of accredited centers in the country.
