Anna C. Freitag, MD, Honored with Prestigious Patch Adams Award for Distinguished Community Service

November 7, 2016 (Shelton, CT) –Fairfield County Medical Association (FCMA) is proud to announce that Anna C. Freitag, MD, was honored with the prestigious Patch Adams Award for Distinguished Community Service at Fairfield County Medical Association’s annual meeting on October 27, 2016 at the Inn at Longshore in Westport, CT.

Dr. Freitag is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism and is affiliated with Saint Mary's Hospital, Franklin Medical Group's Diabetes and Endocrinology Center in Waterbury, and Stamford Hospital. Dr. Freitag obtained her doctorate from the University of Connecticut and completed her residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital. A notable organization that Dr. Freitag volunteers her time and makes a difference through locally in the Fairfield County community is the American Diabetes Association, whose mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of those affected by it. This award greatly aligns with the scope of Dr. Freitag’s work and her compassionate approach to helping her patients and those impacted by the disease.

Local physicians and their guests gathered at FCMA’s annual meeting for an evening of live music, comradery and the Physicians Extraordinaire Awards Ceremony, which recognized several physicians in Fairfield County who demonstrate a strong commitment to providing the highest quality medical care for the patients whom they serve. The event also featured a keynote address titled “Human Care: Revive Your Healing Passion and Thrive” by Hassan A. Tetteh, MD, MBA, FACS, FACHE, a nationally renowned lecturer and author of “Gifts of the Heart.”

The other prestigious awards presented at the annual meeting were as follows: Benjamin Rush Award for Lifetime Achievement-Lawrence Blum, MD, Prasad Srinivasan Award for Dedication to Medical Advocacy-F. Scott Gray, MD, Virginia Apgar Award for Excellence in Medical Research and Education-Winston Y. Shih, MD, Albert Schweitzer Award for Humanitarian Endeavors-Bonnie McGuire Wreschner, MD, Sir William Osler Award for Outstanding Resident-Deepak Kanna Kadayakkara, MD, Dr. Melville Magida Award for Notable Patient Care-Mark A. Vitale, MD. The Magida Award was presented in conjunction with the Rosenthal Family Foundation.

Additionally, seven physicians that have been practicing medicine for 50 years were recognized at the event and are as follows: Taesun Chung, MD, Robert A. Israely, MD, Michael A. Lee, MD, Kenneth J. Lippmann, MD, Richard G. Lovanio, MD, Stuart N. Novack, MD, and Sheikh M. Yousuf Ali, MD.

Connecticut State Representative Daniel Carter, was also awarded FCMA’s 2016 Legislator of the Year award for being a strong patient and physician advocate at the State Capitol and for his instrumental role in helping to craft improvements to the Connecticut Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which is aimed at addressing the opioid crisis.

Mark S. Thompson, Executive Director of the Fairfield County Medical Association commented on the evening by saying “FCMA’s annual meeting is always an amazing event, and this year’s ceremony was no exception. Many of Fairfield County’s most prominent physicians were recognized for the incredible contributions they make in the delivery of medical care.”
