WATR Radio Show to Focus on How to Choose a Surgical Weight Loss Program

WATERBURY, Conn. (January 20, 2016) ─ Dr. Aziz Richi, Vice Chairman of the Department Surgery, Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery and Chief of Staff at Saint Mary’s Hospital, will be the featured guest on “Medically Speaking,” a live radio program airing Wednesday, January 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. on WATR 1320 AM.

“Medically Speaking” is sponsored by Saint Mary’s Hospital and hosted by Robin Sills, RN, Physician Liaison. Sills will interview Dr. Richi about Saint Mary’s accredited Surgical Weight Loss Program and multidisciplinary team approach to helping patients achieve success following weight loss surgery.

“The program that we created is not just doing surgery,” Dr. Richi said, explaining that patients work with a team of providers to prepare for surgery and continue to meet post-operatively to achieve their weight loss goals, a healthier lifestyle and overall wellness. “We will provide you with all of the support that you need.”

Dr. Richi specializes in bariatric surgery, general surgery and thoracic surgery at Saint Mary’s Hospital, with an interest in robotic-assisted bariatric procedures. He earned his medical degree from Damascus University in Syria. He completed his internship at Worcester City Hospital, Worcester, Mass., and his surgical residency at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He also completed a residency in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Dr. Richi is board-certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians, and the American College of Chest Physicians, Dr. Richi previously served as Interim Chairman of the Department of Surgery, as Section Chief of General Surgery, and as Surgical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He is in practice with Franklin Medical Group.
