Saint Mary’s Spirit of Women Network Helping Women to “Conquer Cholesterol”

WATERBURY, Conn. (February 8, 2016) ─ Heart disease is the number one cause of death in women in the U.S. And, high cholesterol is a primary risk factor for heart disease. However, high cholesterol has no symptoms, so many women are at risk for heart disease and don’t even realize it. That’s the bad news. The good news is that you can control most of the risk factors for high cholesterol and significantly reduce your risk of developing heart disease.

On Thursday, February 25, Saint Mary’s Spirit of Women network is sponsoring “Conquer Cholesterol,” an interactive program featuring Dr. Rebecca Scandrett, an interventional cardiologist with Saint Mary’s Hospital and Franklin Medical Group Cardiology. Dr. Scandrett will guide participants through an understanding of cholesterol and other cardiovascular risk factors in women and help them learn what steps can lead to a healthy heart.

The program, which has sold out, will be held at Aria Wedding and Banquet Facility in Prospect and includes a fun an interactive dance session featuring members of the Fred Astaire dance studio in Southbury.

This is the first in a series of four free Spirit of Women programs planned for 2016 by Saint Mary’s Health System. The series is intended to empower women to become proactive about their health and the health of their families, and encourage them to engage in preventive care that will contribute to overall wellness.
