Saint Mary’s Spirit of Women Network Presents “Tame Type 2”

Free Program Highlights Risks, Management of Diabetes

WATERBURY, Conn. (October 20, 2016) ─ More people are at risk or have diabetes than you may realize. One out of three American adults has prediabetes, a condition that increases the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

There are a lot of questions surrounding the prevention and treatment of this condition -- how do you know if you or a loved one are at risk or have prediabetes? How do you prevent Type 2 diabetes? How is the condition treated and managed?

On Thursday, November 10, 2016 Saint Mary’s Spirit of Women network is hosting “Tame Type 2,” a free program at Naugatuck Valley Community College highlighting risk factors and management strategies for diabetes. The program will be presented by Alexander Alvarez, MD, an internal medicine specialist with Saint Mary’s Hospital and Primary Care Partners in Prospect, and Sandra Micalizzi, APRN, CDE, Clinical Nurse Specialist with the Heart Center of Greater Waterbury.

The program begins with registration, dinner and interactive information from 5:30 to 6:30pm followed by the presentation and a question-and-answer session from 6:30 to 8pm. There is no charge for admission. Due to construction at the college, ride sharing is encouraged. To register, go to or call 203-709-3312.
