Support Group Meeting to Focus on “Food and Mood”

WATERBURY, Conn. (January 6, 2016) ─ Saint Mary’s Hospital sponsors a free monthly support group to help patients succeed following weight loss surgery. The next meeting will focus on “Food and Mood,” with a discussion on nutritional mindfulness and tips for avoiding negative self-talk and making positive changes. The support group is led by Nowen Beebe, MS, RD, CDN, Outpatient Dietitian, and co-facilitated by Amy Dumont, LCSW.

The meeting will be held on Monday, January 11 at 5:45 p.m. in Room GO5 of Saint Mary’s Medical-Dental Conference Center off Union Street. There is no charge to attend. Please RSVP by calling 203-709-7722 or email

Saint Mary’s Weight Loss Surgery Support Group has proven to be a powerful part of patients’ personal success in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. During the one-hour meetings, patients share stories, offer support and suggestions and discuss a range of nutritional and psychological issues such as breaking the weight-loss plateau, the sleep-weight connection, stress and boredom eating, learning the art of mindful eating and family and social support.

Saint Mary’s Hospital also offers a free information session for anyone who is considering weight loss surgery. The program includes information about Saint Mary’s multidisciplinary approach to surgical weight loss. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the surgeons, Dr. Aziz Richi, Dr. Shady Macaron and Dr. Shohan Shetty of the Franklin Medical Group, who will discuss the medical, physical and psychological impacts of obesity and provide an overview of the newest surgical weight loss procedures. The next meeting will be held on Monday, January 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room GO2 of Saint Mary’s Medical-Dental Conference Center off Union Street. The meeting is open to the public. There is no charge to attend.
