Saint Mary’s Hospital has 10 surgical suites including a state-of-the-art Open Heart unit and the daVinci® Robotic Surgical System installed in February 2010 and a second system in November 2012. Additionally our Naugatuck Valley Surgical Center on Robbins Street in Waterbury operates 7 surgical suites in a patient oriented, state-of-the-art outpatient ambulatory surgery facility.
RN's without previous operating room experience are educated using the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) Perioperative 101 course in conjunction with a dynamic clinical practicum taught by our Perioperative Clinical Nurse Educator.
To develop nurses with an interest in perioperative nursing Saint Mary’s allocates Student Nurse Internships each summer for RN students in an accredited ADN or BSN program who have completed their first round of clinical.
