President's Message

Bob Ritz with Walk-In Center
Bob Ritz talks with staff at Saint Mary's Health and Wellness Center in Naugatuck, which celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2007.

Saint Mary’s Health System is pleased to present our third annual Community Benefit Report and 2008 calendar. We hope you enjoy the photos of Saint Mary’s staff who are actively involved in our community throughout the year. This report is also an opportunity to highlight some of the many services Saint Mary’s provides as community benefits to greater Waterbury.

During the course of fiscal year 2007, Saint Mary’s Health System provided
$15.6 million in community benefits for approximately 174,000 individuals in Greater Waterbury. While not every benefit we provide can be measured monetarily, the chart below provides a brief summary of the scope and magnitude of services we subsidize or provide to the community without reimbursement. These statistics underscore the vital role Saint Mary’s fills in our community. We have been an integral part of this community for 99 years, providing healthcare services and so much more. One only has to turn the pages here to see a visual representation of what we bring to our community, from medical and surgical services for the uninsured and underinsured, to health education and awareness programs, support groups, emergency preparedness training and community outreach. Saint Mary’s is clearly focused on our Mission to provide excellent healthcare services in a spiritually enriched environment, while improving the quality of living in Greater Waterbury.

We also have a history of working closely with other community organizations to maximize the impact of our community outreach efforts. We are extraordinarily committed to serving our community. We always have been and we always will be, and we hope this calendar brings to life some of the excellent work the Saint Mary’s staff and medical staff do each and every day.

On behalf of the entire Saint Mary’s Health System family, we wish you
and your family a happy and joyous holiday season and much success and good health in 2008.

Sincerely,
Robert P. Ritz, C.H.E.
