Support Groups

Support is a helpful component of healing. A variety of support groups designed to educate, comfort and empower you are offered by Saint Mary’s Hospital and our community partners. As support group times and locations may change, please call the numbers listed for more information.

Bariatric Surgery Support Groups 

This educational and supportive group is for individuals who have undergone bariatric surgery. The group meets on the second Monday of most every month from 5:45 – 6:45 PM in the Saint Mary's Medical-Dental Conference Center. In addition, a support group meeting is offered the third Wednesday of every month from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the Cardiology Conference Room. Discussions focus on helpful nutrition advice and general tools for success following weight loss surgery. All sessions are led by a registered dietitian. Please register by calling 203-709-7722. Cardiac Support Group

The Heart Center of Greater Waterbury offers a quarterly support group for individuals who have had cardiac procedures. The support group offers heart health education from a Clinical Nurse Specialist, along with a forum for patients to share their experiences with heart disease in a supportive environment. Grief / Bereavement Support

VITAS Innovative Hospice Care® regularly offers grief and bereavement support groups and classes. Visit their Online Events Calendar for the most current information. You can also contact Krystal Hale at 203-437-3111 or via e-mail at to make a reservation (required).

Virginia Guerrera Memorial Pulmonary Support Group 

Virginia Guerrera was a remarkable woman and a founding member of an active support group that lives on in her name. This caring group is for individuals with chronic lung diseases such as COPD. Group sessions offer a supportive forum for patients, along with guest speakers who offer information on nutrition, the latest medications, medical benefits and more. The group meets every Wednesday from noon to 2 PM in the Sisters Dining Room. For more information, or to register, please contact the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department at 203-709-6202.

Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center Support Groups

The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center offers numerous support groups for Greater Waterbury residents, including the Brave at Heart Breast Cancer Support Group, the Waterbury Area Ostomy Support Group and the CT Multiple Myeloma Fighters Support Group.
