Cardiac electrophysiology, also known as the study of heart rhythm, is a branch of cardiac medicine that focuses on understanding, diagnosing and treating the electrical activities within the heart. 

The Saint Mary’s Health System Heart Rhythm Program is an important part of your continuum of heart care, and is part of our nationally recognized and award-winning cardiac program. This means that you can get these important cardiac services right here in Waterbury.

Dr. Mark Schoenfeld

Meet Dr. Mark Schoenfeld, Director of the Heart Rhythm Program

Dr. Mark H. Schoenfeld, is the Director of the Heart Rhythm Program at Saint Mary’s Hospital. A past president of the Heart Rhythm Society, Dr. Schoenfeld is nationally recognized for his work in the field of cardiac electrophysiology.

Dr. Schoenfeld graduated from Yale College and received his MD degree from Harvard Medical School. He was an intern and resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was also a Fellow in Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology, and Cardiac Pacing. He established and has served as the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacemaker Laboratory at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine and a Fellow of Saybrook College, Yale University. He is also a professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Frank H. Netter, MD School of Medicine, Quinnipiac University.

Dr. Schoenfeld is well-known in our community and has been treating patients from the Greater Waterbury area in his New Haven-based practice for many years. We are delighted to welcome him to Saint Mary’s, and look forward to the many advantages having a local practice will offer to both our patients, and our referring physicians.
