Saint Mary’s specializes in physical therapy that gets you back where you need to be, living your best life. We have Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers in Waterbury and Naugatuck with services and treatments that include:

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapy team offers individualized, patient-centered care to help you regain function loss and return to your normal daily activities. Our experienced therapists can help relieve your low back pain, other chronic and acute pain, and help you recover from sports injuries, hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery. We also provide:

  • Gait therapy to help patients with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
  • Advanced techniques for extremity, joint and spinal mobilization.
  • Craniosacral Therapy (CST), a treatment to relieve headaches, migraines, vertigo, lumbar and hip pain.

Your treatment may include the use of:

  • heat and cold therapy
  • ultrasound
  • electric stimulation
  • manual and mechanical traction
Private treatment rooms are available for your comfort.

Vestibular Therapy

  • For those suffering from dizziness, lightheadedness, vertigo, unsteadiness or motion sensitivity.
  • Therapists test both static and dynamic balance, provide oculomotor screenings and offer the Epley Maneuver to treat Benign Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo (BPPV).
  • Our staff also helps children and adolescents as they recover from concussion and sports injuries.

Aquatic Therapy

  • These sessions are offered twice a week in a heated pool at the Greater Waterbury YMCA.
  • Our staff members are certified in manual therapy techniques, to facilitate range of motion, weight-bearing activities, cardiovascular exercise and relaxation.
  • This therapy is especially beneficial for orthopedic and post-surgical patients, those who have low back pain, balance and gait disorders, fibromyalgia, obesity, or those who are not yet ready for traditional “land” therapy, if for example, you are badly bruised after a fall or accident.

Occupational Therapy & Low Vision Rehabilitation

Saint Mary’s occupational therapists provide a full range of treatments, including:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome treatment that relieves pressure to the median nerve at the wrist using a variety of exercises and supportive splints.
  • Low Vision treatment through the Lions Low Vision Center at Saint Mary’s. Low vision is a degree of vision loss that cannot be corrected by eyeglasses, contacts, medicine or surgery. It is the third most common impairment among people age 70 and older, and affects daily activities.

If you are referred by your doctor, you’ll be evaluated by one of Saint Mary’s occupational therapists, who have completed specialized training in the treatment of low vision. The therapist will collaborate with your eye care professional to provide treatment focused on helping you use your remaining vision to its fullest potential. This may include the use of compensatory strategies and adaptive equipment, or vision aids, which are provided to patients free of charge by the Lions Club.

Speech Therapy

Saint Mary’s speech therapists evaluate and treat both adult and pediatric clients with speech/language and cognitive impairments due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, progressive neurological diseases and developmental delay.
