Why Is Having a Primary Care Doctor So Important?

A primary care doctor is your healthcare advocate, helping you navigate staying healthy at every age, and guiding you when you need to seek the care of specialists to help manage illnesses or injuries.

If you require hospitalization, you may find your physician has chosen a Saint Mary’s hospitalist to provide for your care during your inpatient stay. You can be assured that the hospitalist will communicate with your primary care physician about your medical history and condition during this time, and you will be reminded to schedule an office visit with your primary care provider soon after you are discharged from the hospital.

In addition to our primary care physicians in the community, primary care services are available at Saint Mary’s Family Health Center and through the Yale Medicine-Pediatrics Program. Both programs offer offers a full complement of medical services such eye exams, allergy treatments, women’s health services, podiatry, and prenatal care. A financial advocate is available, along with Spanish-speaking staff members, to meet the needs of all patients.
