Better Imaging, Better Outcomes

MRI Hours

MRI Services are available at Saint Mary's Hospital Monday through Friday from 7am to 11pm, Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4pm.

From X-rays, MRI and CT scans to images taken at a nuclear level, Saint Mary’s is dedicated to providing advanced radiology services. It’s a difference you’ll see in our caring, experienced providers and state-of-the art technology, which combine to produce better imaging results and better outcomes, for you and your family.

Saint Mary’s Imaging Services Department is fully digital, which offers many advantages, including improved image quality and enhanced speed. That means we deliver accurate results in less time, so you don’t have to wait. Our Radiologists are board-certified by the American Board of Radiology and our facilities are fully accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Bone Density Scanning

Bone Densitometry, or DEXA, is a state-of-the-art radiology procedure that determines bone mineral density, or bone mass. DEXA scanning has been proven to be the most accurate method of measuring bone density.

A bone density exam is strongly recommended for women over the age of 65; all post-menopausal women not taking estrogen who are younger than 65; men age 70 and older; patients with a personal history of hip fracture; adults with a disease or condition associated with low bone mass; patients with Type I diabetes, liver disease or kidney disease; patients with a family history of osteoporosis and women with medical conditions associated with osteoporosis.

Appointments are available in half-hour time slots Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 11 AM and 1 to 3 PM. Appointments also may be scheduled in tandem with your annual mammogram.

Breast Imaging

Advances in imaging technology are helping to improve patient outcomes in and outside of the operating room. Saint Mary’s offers digital mammograms, which remain the best available screening tool for regular breast screenings and early detection of breast cancer, along with ultrasound and MRI for in-depth images, as well as minimally invasive biopsies. And this technology is in the right hands: Saint Mary’s dedicated, experienced team who will help put you at ease.

CT Scan & Ultrasound

Saint Mary’s commitment to the latest technology and the best outcomes for you can be seen in our recently renovated and expanded CT Scan and Ultrasound departments. Our Ultrasound exam rooms feature new, state-of-the-art ultrasound units. Our CT Scan department also was designed with your comfort and convenience in mind and was upgraded in July 2016 with a new Toshiba Aquillon PRIME 160-slice scanner and a new Toshiba Aquillon CXL 128-slice CT scanner. These advanced systems make it possible to obtain high-quality, clinical images and provide faster results to reduce your wait time.

Both our CT Scan and Ultrasound departments are fully accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Saint Mary’s has opened a brand-new imaging suite here at the hospital, featuring a state-of-the-art GE Optima Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system. The suite provides MRI services seven days a week and is specially designed for the comfort of patients, including those with pain and mobility issues, those with respiratory illnesses and kyphosis as well as claustrophobic, pediatric, bariatric, taller and elderly patients.

The new GE Optima system features a special application for MRI breast imaging, which can supplement mammography and breast ultrasound images. The system is also quieter and the wide-bore design helps patients to feel less anxious and less claustrophobic during their exams. More comfortable exams mean a better image, a more accurate diagnosis and a better outcome for you.

Our center is staffed by certified technologists and caring, experienced staff, who will send your images directly to our radiologists at Saint Mary’s Hospital, and the results to your doctor.

Saint Mary’s MRI Suite is open Monday through Friday from 7am to 11 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4pm. For more information about MRI services at Saint Mary’s, call 203-709-3674. For appointments, call 203-709-8601.

Interventional Radiology

Saint Mary’s Interventional Radiology Department, located here at the hospital, delivers an expanded range of minimally-invasive treatments and procedures. Our staff includes Connecticut-licensed and nationally-registered technologists and board-certified physicians to care for you. Our suite features a Shimadzu high-speed digital angiography system that allows procedures to be performed as quickly and efficiently as possible, to make you more comfortable and offer the best treatment possible.

Among the most common conditions we treat are:

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine detects activity on a molecular level, making it ideal for the early detection and staging of cancer, heart disease and other hard-to-diagnose disorders. Saint Mary’s has become a leader in this new technology, with the installation of the Siemens Symbia S®, a top-rated dual head Nuclear Medicine camera.

Its high definition digital detectors offer exceptional imaging performance and expanded clinical capabilities. Its open design offers more comfort for a variety of patients, including pediatric, geriatric and bariatric patients. It also enables technologists to perform highly accurate organ and tissue-specific studies while accommodating stretchers and wheelchairs.

Saint Mary’s Nuclear Medicine Department is accredited by the American College of Radiology.
