You're invited to take a virtual tour of the Women & Infants Center at Saint Mary's Hospital. View our private birthing suites, meet the smiling faces of our nursing staff and become familiar with what Saint Mary's has to offer you and your growing family.

A Range of Childbirth Options

Saint Mary’s staff includes board-certified obstetrician/gynecologists and certified nurse-midwives who offer personalized care in a warm and supportive environment. Your nurse-midwife will assist you throughout your pregnancy, labor and delivery. Saint Mary’s has a 1:1 ratio of staff to patient during active labor. All nurses are certified in electronic fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, and basic and advanced life support. We offer round-the-clock coverage by board-certified physicians and anesthesiologists. Expert care continues after your baby has arrived, as all Saint Mary’s nurses are trained in lactation and can help with breastfeeding and latching on. The Birthplace at Saint Mary’s Hospital offers a unique natural childbirth experience for some low-intervention births.

Private Suites for Labor, Delivery, Recovery

Feel right at home in our welcoming, private suites with soft colors, lighting and music to promote relaxation. Your partner, family members, coaches and guides are welcome to share the space with you. Some suites offer a hydrotherapy tub if you choose to labor in the comfort of a warm bath or have a water birth.

Pain Management

Saint Mary’s is supportive of your pain management choices during childbirth. We understand that your comfort level can change during the process, so final pain management decisions can often be made after labor begins. In addition to 24/7 anesthesia care, available pain management options include:

  • Natural childbirth or unmedicated labor
  • Birthing balls
  • Hydrotherapy and showers
  • Support for doulas and other helpers

A Baby-Friendly Hospital

Saint Mary’s Hospital is joining more than 15,000 healthcare facilities around the world to support breastfeeding as part of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative. To receive the designation, Saint Mary’s must complete ten steps, including:

  • Informing expectant mothers about the benefits of breastfeeding
  • Helping moms initiate breastfeeding within an hour after birth
  • Supporting lactation through education and baby-friendly practices, such as rooming-in.

NICU & Babies With Special Needs

We know your baby’s health is your first priority and it is ours, too. If your baby arrives early or needs extra attention, Saint Mary’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized care using the most advanced technology and resources. Our board-certified, Yale-trained neonatologist is here to provide advanced care and comfort for pre-term infants and those with complex medical issues. We’re here to help you navigate those precious, early days. Perhaps that’s why so many people say Saint Mary’s NICU is a very special place.
