RN Refresher Course Assistance

The
following policies and procedures will be followed when paying
for the education of inactive Registered Nurses to return,
to the practice of nursing in bedside staff positions.
Candidates for this assistance must be:
- A graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Hold a current CT State RN license.
- Has been absent from an acute care practice for
three years or more.
- Have undergone an employment interview
conducted by the appropriate Director of Nursing. This
should follow a “shadowing” opportunity
conducted by an experienced preceptor.
- Commit to completing the first two
course modules within six months and to complete the
clinical practicum at Saint Mary’s.
- Commit to working a regular
schedule of 20 hours a week or more for a two-year
period at Saint Mary’s.
Refresher Course assistance will be offered to candidates
who have signed and returned an offer letter and the amount
will be paid directly to Charter Oak College in partnership
with the CT League for Nursing
Payment may not exceed $1,800.00. Employment
is contingent on the successful completion of the entire
program
Nurses who have already completed the
first two modules at Charter Oak, and desirous of doing
their clinicals at Saint Mary’s, would be eligible
for reimbursement following a shadowing opportunity with
an experienced preceptor and an interview with a Director
of nursing that results in a job offer.
Repayment of refresher course assistance
Should an RN for whom refresher course assistance is
provided not be employed by his or her own choice or when
terminated for cause, for a period of at least two years,
repayment based on the following schedule will be required.
- 100 % if employed less than 6 months
- 75 % if employed at least 6 months but less than 12
months
- 50 % if employed at least 12 months but less than
18 months
- 25 % if employed at least 18 months, but less than
24 months.
