Each year, volunteers dedicate thousands of hours of service to facilitate the work of Saint Mary's Hospital's professional staff and to help make our patients more comfortable. Volunteers are assigned to support roles in almost every aspect of the hospital's operations on every shift. By sharing their time, talent and enthusiasm, our volunteers help Saint Mary's Hospital maintain its long-standing reputation for excellence and personalized care. Volunteers at Saint Mary's enjoy free meals in the hospital's bistro style cafeteria and free parking. The Volunteer Services Department also coordinates several special projects:
- Tender Touch volunteers provide patients, visitors and staff with soothing hand and foot rubs. Adult volunteers undergo extra training to learn how to provide this free, soothing service.
- Patient Representatives serve as liaisons between patients and the hospital. Saint Mary's "Patient Reps" utilize their skills as attentive listeners and communicators to help patients and their families feel more at ease by assisting with special needs, explaining hospital policies and helping patients understand their rights and responsibilities.
- The Junior Volunteers program provides opportunities for young adults ages 14 through 18. The program is an excellent chance for young people to learn more about modern health care and to gauge their own interest in a future career in a helping profession.
